Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

What the county lists. The Veterans' Benefits page lists the "County Veterans' Aid Fund (CVA). To meet immediate emergency financial needs", applied for through the office, 402-274-3419. What the fund holds. Before 2025-2026 the county budgeted no aid fund. The 2025-2026 budget created fund 1900, the Veterans Service Aid Fund, with $10,000.00 of expected "Veterans Aid Donations" and no tax: $5,000.00 for veterans aid, $2,500.00 for county burials and $2,500.00 for other public assistance. The adopted 2026-2027 budget shows what happened: $1,712.00 of donations came in and $500.00 of veterans aid was paid, leaving $1,212.00, and it budgets $11,212.00 for 2026-2027 - $6,212.00 of veterans aid, $2,500.00 for burials and $2,500.00 for other assistance - against another $10,000.00 of donations. The July 15, 2026 claims list a Veterans Services Aid payment of $1,000.00 to "Nem Co Veterans". Who qualifies. Section 80-102 lets the county veterans service committee aid a veteran, a spouse, a surviving spouse or a minor child in need. Since LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) the veteran need only have served, been discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions) or died in service, and lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county; there is no wartime test. See the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion and the State's own aid fund.
