Nacogdoches County Clerk: Recording of Military Discharges

The Nacogdoches County Clerk publishes no discharge page, so the statute governs: Local Government Code 192.002 has the Clerk record a DD-214 without a fee, and Government Code 552.140 keeps it confidential and limits who can get copies; 101 W. Main Street, Suite 110, Nacogdoches, 936-560-7733.

Also called: DD-214, DD214, discharge, county clerk, recording, 192.002, 552.140, Sandy Yates, Nacogdoches, Garrison, Cushing, Appleby, Chireno.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Nacogdoches County Clerk's page lists its duties, vital records forms and filing fees but nothing on military discharges. The statute is the answer: under Local Government Code 192.002 the county clerk records a discharge and "may not charge a fee for the recording and keeping of a military discharge record", and under Government Code 552.140 a discharge recorded on or after September 1, 2003 is confidential and released only to the veteran and the others it lists (see the Texas entry). Bring the DD-214 to County Clerk Sandra "Sandy" Yates, Nacogdoches County Courthouse, 101 W. Main Street, Suite 110, Nacogdoches, TX 75961; phone 936-560-7733.
