Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Muskegon County's Resource Recovery Center, the county's wastewater property at 698 North Maple Island Road, runs a managed archery hunt each season, and its 2026 Hunting and Trapping Rules set the veteran term: "Permit Fees: $100.00 for the period from October 1, 2026 continuous through January 1, 2027. Military Veterans w/ valid DD-214 or ID Card: No Charge." How it works. Hunters enter a qualification drawing by the September 1 deadline - online, by email, mail or in person - and successful entrants buy their permits in mid-September at the administration building. At purchase every hunter shows a valid 2026-2027 Michigan hunting licence and photo ID, and "if a Veteran, Proof of Service (e.g., valid DD-214, Active Duty Military ID, or Muskegon County Veteran ID)". The Muskegon County Veteran ID is the county's own proof-of-service card. Turkey season runs September 15 to November 14 and coyote to March 1; zones are assigned at the drawing and one permit per hunter. The Public Works Board adopted the 2026 rules and authorized the youth Liberty Hunt in August 2026 (BPW26/08-058), reporting that of 89 archery passes issued in 2025, 11 went free to veterans. The Muskegon County Veteran ID is accepted elsewhere as proof of service; ask the Department of Veterans Affairs, 231-724-7143, about obtaining one.
