Moore County Veterans Services helps veterans and survivors in Moore County obtain VA and State benefits: "We work for Veterans and their dependents as county employees... Not the VA!" Its service officers are accredited through the State Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers, the American Legion, the DAV and the VFW.
What it does. Disability compensation, needs-based pension and survivors' claims; VA health care enrolment; requests for service records; VA grave markers; referrals. It signs the State's forms for military and veteran licence plates, the disabled veteran hunting and fishing licence (50% or more) and the property tax exclusion, if the veteran brings the rating decision and DD-214.
What it does not do. It does not help third parties claim against a veteran's benefits, release a veteran's information without written authorisation, file education claims (apply at VA.gov), make ID cards, help with Social Security, or give financial, tax or medical advice.
Where and when. Main office: 707 Pinehurst Avenue, Agriculture Building, Carthage 28327, Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., by appointment (910-947-3257). As of August 28, 2026 it was booking Carthage appointments for October 2026; a service member filing a Benefits Delivery at Discharge claim who would miss the 180-to-90-day window is told to use the VA office at the nearest installation. Satellite office: VFW, 625 S. Page St., Southern Pines, Tuesdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., walk-ins only, arrive by 3 p.m.
Two pages to read with care. The office's State benefits page describes the property tax exclusion as "100% Service Connected" with "an honorable discharge"; see the Moore County property tax entry for what the statute allows. Its licence plate note asks for the "MVR-33", which the DMV now numbers MVR-33A.
