Montgomery County Veterans Service: Emergency Financial Assistance

One-time help with past-due rent, mortgage or utility bills for Montgomery County veterans, paid from a Texas Veterans Commission grant. An other-than-honorable discharge qualifies, and so does an unhoused veteran.

Also called: emergency assistance, financial assistance, rent, mortgage, utilities, eviction, foreclosure, Fund for Veterans Assistance, FVA, other than honorable, homeless.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Montgomery County Veterans Service Office offers one-time financial assistance to eligible veterans from a grant from the Texas Veterans Commission's Fund for Veterans' Assistance. Who can apply. A veteran discharged honorable, general under honorable conditions, or other than honorable, who lives in Montgomery County or is unhoused. The application (September 2026) asks about a spouse and minor children as part of the household, but the help is for the veteran. What it can pay. A past-due rent payment, with the lease and any eviction notice; a past-due mortgage payment, with the latest statement and any foreclosure letter; or a past-due utility bill in the veteran's name, with any disconnection notice. Bills must be no more than 90 days old, and every vendor must provide a W-9. How it works. Requests are judged case by case, first come, first served, and approval does not guarantee payment. Bring the DD-214 (member 4 copy), a driver licence, two months of bank statements for the veteran and spouse, and the monthly budget page. Requests and updates go by email only, to [email protected], and payment takes about 30 days after a complete application. Grant coordinator: 936-538-5422.
