DD-214 and the card. The Montgomery County Clerk records a DD-214 free at its main office, 210 W. Davis Street, Suite 103, Conroe 77301, and gives free certified copies; that is the State rule (see the Texas entry). Once the DD-214 is recorded, the Clerk issues a free Thank A Veteran ID card, which participating local businesses, listed on the Clerk's website and marked by a window decal, honour with a discount they each set. Government Code 552.140 also lets a legal guardian, the personal representative of the estate, a person holding a power of attorney from one of those, another governmental body and a funeral home helping with the burial inspect the record and get copies. Assumed names. The fee is otherwise $22.50 for one owner, plus 50 cents for each other owner. Business and Commerce Code 71.155(a-1) lets a clerk waive the statutory fees for a veteran, and the Montgomery County Clerk "has waived the remaining fees" too, so a veteran pays nothing. The Clerk extends the waiver to anyone showing valid identification of "active duty or veteran status". A corporation or LLC files its assumed name with the Secretary of State instead, not the county.
