At the joint Council and Commissioners meeting of May 12, 2026: "Nick Kashon, Veteran's Service Officer, reported that the office was in compliance and meeting state service requirements. ... He as been working with the Legion and local newspapers to get the word out about that". The Auditor cautioned that not all State instructions and forms had yet been distributed. File State Form 12662 with the County Auditor by January 15, 2027 for taxes due in 2027; a totally disabled veteran who had the old $14,000 deduction must file again to get the new 100% deduction, or the county applies only the $250 credit. On January 12, 2026 the IDVA's district service officer "explained Indiana Code 10-17-1-9 referring to the policy establishing comprehensive and mandatory standards for the accreditation of service officers", and the Commissioners' October 26, 2026 agenda has the regional service officer's "bi-annual update on SB43., the standards the county must follow for Veterans Service Officers".
