Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Montague.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Montague grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Assessors’ Office names Adam Tocci the Director of Assessing at Montague Town Hall, 2nd Floor, One Avenue A, Turners Falls (413-863-3200, extension 120), with the Board of Assessors electing Rebecca J. Sabelawski (term expires 2026), Ann E. Fisk (2028) and Ann M. Cenzano the chairperson (2027). The department’s exemption forms are the Commonwealth’s: the veterans’ clause 22 Form 96-4, the seniors’ Form 96-1, the surviving spouses’ Form 96-2 and the blind persons’ Form 96-3, each linked beside the Department of Revenue’s guides to real estate tax exemptions, and no amount of the town’s own and no acceptance of clause 22I or 22J appears on the site, so the figures here are the statute’s. The town’s Veterans’ Services page is the district’s: the Upper Pioneer Valley Veterans’ Services District, Christopher Demars the Director, Joshua Anderson the Deputy Director, Laura Thorne the Veterans’ Services Assistant and Brian Brooks the Veterans’ Service Officer, at 294 Main Street, Greenfield (413-772-1571, fax 413-772-1401), hours 8:30 am to 5 pm - the office the EOVS directory’s September 7, 2026 Montague row lists - with the district’s own website, on Greenfield’s site, the page links and a mission statement describing advocacy for the Commonwealth’s veterans and the emergency financial assistance program; the page’s files carry the Soldiers Memorial Committee’s agendas. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Montague Veterans’ Services: Upper Pioneer Valley Veterans’ Services District, Christopher Demars, Director. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
