Mineral County Recorder: Recording Military Discharge Papers

The Mineral County Recorder records under NRS 247 with an online Document Inquiry site, and its pages publish no military-discharge line or fee schedule, so free recording rests on NRS 419.020.

Also called: DD-214, DD214, recorder, discharge papers, NRS 419.020, NRS 247.110, Document Inquiry, Hawthorne.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

NRS 419.020 requires every county recorder to record a certificate of honorable discharge "free of any charge therefor"; see the Nevada entry. The Mineral County Recorder's Office in Hawthorne records under NRS 247 and offers a Browse Document Inquiry site, recording forms, recording information and marriage records on its pages, with the Nevada County Recorders' links alongside. What the pages do not say. The Recorder's pages publish no discharge line, no fee schedule and no statement of the free rule, so a veteran asked to pay for recording an honorable discharge should cite NRS 419.020, and ask the office (through the county's contact points, the courthouse at 105 South A Street, Hawthorne) how a recorded DD-214 is indexed. Recorded documents in Nevada are generally open to public inspection; recording a discharge is always optional.
