Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Middletown’s Tax Exemptions for Veterans page gives honorably discharged wartime veterans a $1,500 exemption off the real estate or motor vehicle assessment, which it calls town funded, on a DD-214 filed with the Town Clerk before October 1. Disabled veterans receive an assessment exemption of $3,000 to $5,250 based on the level of disability, on a VA determination letter filed with the Assessor before October 1. The page prints no income limits and no amounts by rating; both published ranges are above the amounts C.G.S. 12-81(19) and (20) provide, which are $1,000 and $2,000 to $3,500 in the 2026 Supplement. Ask the assessor how the city computes them. The page’s Additional Veterans’ Exemption Program, for low-income disabled and wartime veterans, has applicants file with the Assessor between February 1 and October 1, with proof of the prior calendar year’s income, and refile biennially. The page names no statute for it and prints no amounts or income limits; its terms match the state’s additional exemption under C.G.S. 12-81g. OLR’s 2023 survey recorded Middletown as offering the 12-81f(a) additional exemption at $10,000, with the survey’s 2023 state limits of $49,100 married and $40,300 single. Ask the assessor. From the 2025 grand list a veteran VA rates permanently and totally disabled at 100 percent has the fractional share of the dwelling occupied as a primary residence, including condominiums and common-interest units, or lacking a dwelling one motor vehicle, exempt under 12-81(83); the spouse’s dwelling or vehicle qualifies if the veteran owns neither. The page notes the land is not covered, and that after the veteran’s death the dwelling or vehicle of an unmarried surviving spouse or minor child is exempt to the same extent. Form D-2 and documentation are filed annually before January 1. The page also gives the active-duty serviceman’s motor vehicle exemption under 12-81(53), applied for by December 31 following the tax bill.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
