Free transportation to New Jersey VA medical centers runs Monday to Friday through the county’s MCAT service: twice a week, Tuesdays and Thursdays, to Lyons, and three times a week, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, to East Orange; 1-800-221-3520 or (732) 745-7456.

"Transportation to Veterans Affairs Medical Centers in New Jersey is available Monday through Friday through a coordinated effort with the Middlesex County Department of Transportation (MCAT). Please call 1-800-221-3520 or 732-745-7456... Available twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays to Lyons VA Medical Center. Available three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays to East Orange VA Main Hospital. Requests for service will be met as resources permit." Funding. On June 18, 2026 the Board of County Commissioners adopted resolution 26-754-R, a grant contract with the New Jersey Department of Veterans and Military Affairs and the Office of RIDE "to provide transportation to veterans for medical purposes or appointments at the VA regional offices from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027 in the amount of $22,000.00," adopted five to zero; the matching 2026 budget amendment, "NJ Veterans And Military Affairs $22,000," was adopted separately on September 17, 2026 as resolution 26-1106-R, also five to zero.
