Methuen Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Methuen’s fiscal 2027 exemption sheet gives $1,600 under clause 22 and $3,000 to $6,000 under 22A to 22C, each four times the statute, and $4,000 under 22E; the general laws’ local options add at most 100 per cent, so confirm the amounts with the assessors.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Methuen.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The City of Methuen grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a city can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Assessing Department’s “Qualifications for Statutory Exemption FY2027” sheet (a scanned page, read as an image) gives $1,600 under clause 22 (a 10 per cent or more service-connected rating, a Purple Heart, a surviving spouse of an eligible veteran or of a World War I veteran), $3,000 under 22A, $5,000 under 22B, $6,000 under 22C, a total exemption under 22D, and $4,000 under 22E (a yearly VA certificate at 100 per cent and incapability of working). Each is four times the statutory amount, and the sheet’s clause 17D and 41D figures ($847 and $2,000) are also above the statute’s $175 and $1,000. The general laws’ local options, clause 22J and section 5C½, add at most 100 per cent, and 22J cannot run in a year 5C½ does; the sheet names none, and no acceptance was found in the city’s code of ordinances or its records, so confirm the amounts with the assessors. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Methuen Veterans Services. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

GateRule
A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relativeClause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
