Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The office. The Merrick County Veterans Service Office is in the courthouse, 1510 18th Street, Central City (PO Box 27, Central City, NE 68826), phone (308) 946-2466, [email protected]. The county's page gives office hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday, but the State's directory (updated October 26, 2026) lists Tuesday and Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (closed 12:00 to 12:30), so call before going. The Veterans Service Officer is Thomas Reimers. The office helps veterans and dependents with information on VA benefits, with applications and supporting documents, and with eligibility for VA medical centre treatment. What the county lists. The County Benefits page (modified November 7, 2025) names county veterans aid (see that entry); a bronze grave flag holder reflecting the veteran's wartime era, inventoried each year and replaced when damaged; registration of DD-214s with certified copies on request; homestead help, the office obtaining each year "a letter from the VA Regional Office" naming eligible veterans and widows for the Assessor; and grave registration, with a card sent to the State and a Presidential Memorial Certificate ordered for the family of every deceased county veteran. The Board's year. The officer reports to the Board under Officials' Reports. On June 24, 2025 the Board appointed Eugene Urkoski to the Veterans Service Committee in place of Robert Wyman, and on June 23, 2026 it re-appointed Robert Fuelberth. On October 14, 2025 Mr. Reimers told the Board the State database's user agreement needed updating, and on January 27, 2026 he told it of the Governor's proposed LB1072, which would take 10% from the Nebraska Veterans' Aid fund; the chairwoman suggested writing to Senator Lippincott. The money. The adopted 2026-2027 budget gives the office (0100-803 Veterans Service) $37,726.76, against $35,601.12 spent in 2025-2026, almost all of it the officer's pay.
