Merrick County Veteran’s Relief Fund

Merrick County’s section 80-102 Veteran’s Relief Fund has held the same $6,523.26 - a "County Soldiers & Sailors" balance - through 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 without paying any aid, and the adopted 2026-2027 budget makes it available again; the county’s page still prints the wartime-era test that LB1300 removed.

Also called: county veterans aid, CVA, Veteran's Relief Fund, Soldiers & Sailors, fund 1900, 80-102, LB1300, Central City, Clarks, Palmer, Silver Creek, Chapman, Archer.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, child, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

What the page says. The County Benefits page calls the CVA fund "a temporary emergency fund to assist veterans, their spouses, and dependents when there is an unforeseen emergency and there are no other resources available", for food, shelter, clothing, funeral, medical, dental and surgical items, applied for through the office, and limits it to veterans who "received an Honorable Discharge, and served during one of the defined 'wartime eras'". LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) struck the wartime-service test from section 80-102, which now reaches a veteran discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions), or who died in service, who has lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county, and a spouse, surviving spouse or minor child in need. What the fund holds. Fund 1900, the Veteran's Relief Fund, carries one line, a "County Soldiers & Sailors" balance of $6,523.26. It had no revenue and paid nothing in 2024-2025 or 2025-2026, though the 2025-2026 budget made the whole balance available, and the adopted 2026-2027 budget makes the same $6,523.26 available again, with no tax. Apply through the Veterans Service Office, (308) 946-2466; see the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion and the State's own aid fund.
