Mendocino County Assessor: Disabled Veterans' Exemption
The Mendocino County Assessor-Clerk-Recorder's exemption desk (707-234-6800) takes the State's disabled veterans' exemption. The Assessor's page still says it is worth "$114,634 or higher" and the Auditor-Controller's page "$175,298 or higher"; the 2026 amounts are $180,671, or $271,009 with household income under $81,131.
Also called: property tax, assessor, disabled veterans exemption, 205.5, BOE-261-G, veterans exemption, $4,000, unemployable, surviving spouse, 707-234-6800, Ukiah, Fort Bragg, Willits, Point Arena, Mendocino, Gualala, Covelo, Boonville, Hopland, Laytonville, Redwood Valley, Albion, Elk, Philo.
The exemption is the State's; the California entry gives the test, the amounts and Senate Bill 296's larger exemption from the January 1, 2027 lien date. What Mendocino County adds is where to file, and two pages with the wrong amount.
The Assessor's page. "Veterans may also qualify for one of two Veteran's Exemptions. In order to be eligible for a Veterans' Exemption, a single veteran must not have assets valued over $5,000. A married veteran (or a veteran's widow who has not remarried) must not have assets valued over $10,000. If you are a veteran with a service-connected disability (or if you are unmarried widow of such a veteran), you may be eligible for an exemption of $114,634 or higher off assessed value of your home, depending upon your annual house income." "Applications for any of these exemptions must be filed with the Assessor's Office. For more information contact the Exemption Department of the Assessor's Office at (707) 234-6800."
The Auditor-Controller's page says the same thing with a different figure: "an exemption of $175,298 or higher", the 2025 basic amount.
The current amounts. For the January 1, 2026 lien date the State Board of Equalization's figures are $180,671 basic and $271,009 low-income, at a household income limit of $81,131. The test is a service-connected rating of 100 percent or compensation at 100 percent for unemployability, blindness in both eyes or the loss of use of two or more limbs - not any service-connected disability, as both pages read. File form BOE-261-G with the Assessor, 501 Low Gap Road, Ukiah. The $4,000 veterans' exemption with the asset limits is the separate, older one.
