Medway Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Medway’s Assessing Department says disabled veterans "may be eligible for real estate tax exemptions" and posts no amounts, so this entry gives the statute’s; its veterans’ services are the MetroWest District’s, whose Medway hours sit at the Senior Center.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Medway.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Medway grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Assessing Department page names Chris Park, M.A.A. the Principal Assessor, Melissa Smart the Assistant Assessor and Shannon Reeve the Administrative Assistant, on the first floor in the back of Town Hall, 155 Village Street (508-533-3203); the Board of Assessors’ page names Carol Niedbala the chair (term expires 2027), Faina Shapiro (2028) and Rita Larrabee (2029). The department’s page says disabled veterans, the elderly with limited income and the blind "may be eligible for real estate tax exemptions" and posts no amount of the town’s own, so the figures here are the statute’s; no acceptance of clause 22I or 22J was found on the town’s site. The Veterans’ Services page describes the MetroWest Veterans Services District and names Kathleen Lang the Director, Veterans’ Services Officer, with John DeSousa the Administrative Support Specialist, its hours at the Ashland office alternating Wednesdays 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. and at the Medway Senior Center Thursdays 1:00 to 3:30 p.m., by appointment. The page links the district’s site, metrowestveteranservices.com, whose contact page gives the central office at 1750 Washington Street, Holliston (508-429-0629, [email protected]) - the office and officer the EOVS directory lists on the Medway row ([email protected]). The district serves Medway, Holliston, Hopkinton and Ashland. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through MetroWest Veterans Services District: Kathleen Lang, Director & Veterans’ Services Officer. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
