Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Medina Municipal Court, which hears the county's misdemeanor cases at 223 East Washington Street, Medina (330-723-3287), runs the Medina Municipal Valor Court under Judge Gary F. Werner, certified by the Supreme Court of Ohio on December 16, 2021 and listed today as a Substance Use - Veterans Treatment docket. The court's page describes the programme: judicially involved veterans get a collaborative initiative with a support programme and treatment resources and a cadre of veteran mentors, a comprehensive individualized case plan, help connecting or reconnecting with VA and community services, and an emphasis on rebuilding family and community ties. A veteran with a pending eligible charge and a treatment need asks the judge, a lawyer or the public defender for a referral, or asks the Veterans Service Office, whose commissioners sit as mentors (VFW representative Carl DeForest is one). Around the docket. Tyler's Redemption Place, the county's recovery community organization, runs veterans support - peer meetings, mentoring and virtual-reality sessions - and the commission's August 2026 minutes record a Valor Court field trip there. The Common Pleas Court certifies a mental health docket and two substance use dockets under Judge Joyce V. Kimbler, a substance use docket under Judge William F. Hutson, and a juvenile substance use docket under Judge Kevin W. Dunn, and no veterans docket, so a felony-level veteran is served through those dockets. The Wadsworth Municipal Court certifies nothing. The county's own state of play, from the Veterans Service Office's mid-year report to the commissioners: Senate Bill 179 of 2026 now funds veterans treatment courts, and the office supports establishing a county-level veterans treatment court.
