Markers and flags. The Medina County Veterans Service Commission supplies grave markers and flags for the county's cemeteries, a line the office lists among its county benefits, and its site keeps an illustrated register of the county's monuments: the Brunswick Veterans Memorial at the Municipal Center on Center Road, the Chatham Township veterans memorials at Routes 162 and 83, the Chippewa Lake memorials at the boat ramp on Westfield Landing Road, the Hinckley Veterans Memorial Park and the Route 3 marker, the Medina Civil War Memorial in Spring Grove Cemetery and the Medina County Veterans Memorial at the county courthouse, among the rest. The memorial fund. The Medina County Veterans Memorial Fund is a 501(c)(3) beside the office that assists veterans and families the office cannot help under Ohio law - members of the Ohio National Guard and the reserve components among them - with service-animal training, medical, utility and vehicle-repair bills, vehicle purchases, home repairs, ADA accessibility and ramps. It repairs flag poles and vandalized monuments, sponsored the Traveling Vietnam Wall, and supplies holiday meals to more than 100 families and laundry supplies to more than 800 a year. Each Veterans Day its Hometown Hero banners fly on Center Road in Brunswick from about October 21 to November 18, with yard banners to order. The commission's minutes carry its gift-card account, and the fund sponsors several of the office's holistic programmes. Indigent burial. Section 5901.25 has the commission bury or cremate a veteran, or a veteran's parent, spouse or surviving spouse, who died without means, with up to $1,000 from the county (see the Ohio entry). No page of the county or the commission describes its practice, so call 330-722-9368 before signing a funeral contract.
