Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Service and Benefits Program gives free help from VA-accredited benefits specialists. They help a veteran, a dependent, or a survivor apply for federal and state benefits and follow a claim. The department tells people to avoid unaccredited outfits that charge a fee for claims help. Help is for a veteran, an active-duty service member, a National Guard member, a reservist, or a family member living in Maryland. The department lists offices in Annapolis, Baltimore, Bel Air, Charlotte Hall, Cumberland, Easton, Elkton, Frederick, Gaithersburg, Glen Burnie, Hagerstown, Largo, Laurel, Rosedale, Salisbury, and Waldorf. Several of those sit inside Motor Vehicle Administration branches. The Baltimore office is in the Federal Building, Room 3020, 31 Hopkins Plaza, Baltimore, MD 21201. The published line is (800) 446-4926, extension 6450. There is no benefits specialist at the Annapolis headquarters on Francis Street. Call the service program to find the nearest office. This is counseling and representation. It does not decide the claim, and it is not a payment.
