Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Mo. Rev. Stat. 59.480 makes the recording of a discharge free and limits who may see or copy it; see the Missouri entry. The Recorder's page lists among the office's duties: "We record and file copies of Armed Forces discharge papers for all veterans who reside in the county." Its formatting rules exempt "Military separation papers" from the State formatting standards, so the $25 non-standard fee does not reach them, and the county's FAQ says military records are indexed online but their images are not available online. The page's fees ($26 the first page and $3 each further page) are for land records and name no discharge charge; the statute keeps a discharge and its copies free. The page posts no request form; copies go only to the veteran or an authorized party on the Recorders Association of Missouri's notarized form. The statute sets no residence test for recording, so a veteran living elsewhere who wants a discharge filed here should ask. Where. Recorder of Deeds Michelle Barker (deputy Robin O'Brien), 602 Main Street, P.O. Box 606, Pineville, MO 64856; 417-223-7523, fax 417-223-2881; 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.
