Maynard Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Maynard’s own FY27 Exemption Info sheet prints the statutes doubled under clauses 22 and 22E - $800 and $2,000 - beside clauses 22A to 22C at the statutes’ $750, $1,250 and $1,500, the same mix no option named in the section produces that Melrose’s page does, so its entry asks the assessors; the same sheet records a Veteran Tax Work-Off of up to $1,500 for fiscal 2027 at minimum wage, and its VSO is the town’s own Peter Harvell.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Maynard.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Maynard grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Assessor’s Office names Sean M. DelRose, MAA, the Chief Assessor and Marianne S. Harrold the Assistant Assessor at Town Hall, 195 Main Street (978-897-1304). The department’s resources carry the town’s own "FY27 Exemption Info" sheet: clause 22 at "$800 @100%" for the 10-percent-plus service-connected disability, the Purple Heart and Gold Star parents, and clause 22E at "$2,000 @100%" for the 100 percent line-of-duty disability - the statutes doubled - beside clause 22A at $750.00, 22B at $1,250 and 22C at $1,500, the statutes unchanged, and clause 22D at "FULL 1ST FIVE YEARS, UP TO $2,500 THEREAFTER" for the surviving spouse of a member who died from a combat-zone injury or disease, a mix no option named in the section produces uniformly, the same shape as Melrose’s page. No acceptance of clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½ appears on the site, and the 2026 Annual Town Meeting minutes carry no veteran item beyond the Veterans’ Agent’s salary and the Memorial Park monument’s restoration, so the entry asks the assessors for the amounts on this year’s bill. The sheet’s residence test is the statute’s own: six months’ Massachusetts domicile before entering service or two consecutive years. The Veteran Services page names Peter Harvell the Veterans Service Officer - "VSO - NEW!" - office hours Thursdays 2 to 4 pm or by appointment (978-897-1361; messages through the Office of Municipal Services, 978-897-1302) - the officer the EOVS directory’s September 7, 2026 Maynard row lists at 195 Main Street on the same number. The page lists the VSO’s services: forms for disability compensation, health care, financial help, records, education and bonuses, pre-registration applications, internment at Massachusetts Memorial Cemeteries, grave markers and presidential memorial certificates. The town’s Hometown Heroes Committee hangs banners for Maynard’s veterans and those killed in action on 46 downtown poles from May to November, and its Veterans Memorial Park on Summer Street commemorates the town’s war dead, redesigned with Community Preservation Act funds. The same FY27 sheet records the town’s Veteran Tax Work-Off Program: "For FY2027 the total amount that can be earned toward tax bill is $1,500 worked at minimum wage per hour" for the owner of a Maynard domicile as of July 1, beside the sheet’s senior work-off of $2,000 at 60 and over - the section 5N work-off it is, though the sheet names neither section nor any vote. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Maynard Veteran Services: Peter Harvell, Veterans Service Officer. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

GateRule
A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relativeClause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
