The Clerk's page carries a "Recording/Indexing" heading with the words "Filing Fees" and no schedule or link under them, and nothing on the page names military discharges. Local Government Code 192.002 makes the filing free, Government Code 603.003 makes the certified copy free, and Government Code 552.140 keeps a discharge recorded on or after September 1, 2003 confidential, releasing it only to the veteran and the others it lists (see the Texas entry). A veteran asked to pay should cite the statutes.
