Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The waiver is the State's: a sheriff "shall waive the payment of the license fee" for an applicant who "has retired from or was honorably discharged from military service in the active or reserve armed forces", and a document showing military firearms experience counts as the competency certification (Revised Code 2923.125(B)(1)(c) and (B)(3)(d)). The State lets sheriffs waive veterans' fees only until waived fees statewide reach $1.5 million in a year, after which the fee is charged for the rest of that year. Marion County's page. "VETERANS: bring copy of proof of Honorable Discharge & DD214 showing firearms proficiency to get fee and training exemptions." It says the same for renewals. Others pay $67 for a new licence ($80 for an Ohio resident of under five years) and $50 to renew ($63), and bring the application, a colour photo and an eight-hour training certificate; a replacement licence is $15. Apply at the Marion County Sheriff's Office, 100 Executive Drive, Marion; pay by cheque, money order or exact cash.
