Where it applies

Marathon County's Veterans Service Office is at 1100 Lake View Drive, Suite 300, Wausau WI 54403, phone (715) 261-1141, fax 715-261-1146, walk-ins welcome with appointments recommended. The CVSO is Aaron Galindo, with assistant CVSO Wade Pommer; the general inbox is [email protected]. The commission and the aid. County code section 2.06(18) creates the three-member commission, appointed by the County Administrator to three-year terms, with duties to "Determine aid to needy veterans ... pursuant to sections 45.10 through 45.15, Wisconsin Statutes" - a stale citation, but the aid is real: the county's online application form at forms.co.marathon.wi.us/forms/vets2 asks for a one-time emergency assistance or repayable loan for county-resident veterans and families of deceased veterans, twelve months of residency required, a decision within ten days, paid directly to the landlord, utility or vendor. The commission's January 2026 agenda names a County Veterans Relief Fund with allocations handled in closed session. The office's reach runs to burial: its death and burial page walks families through the VA's $2,000 service-connected burial allowance and marker process, and lists Northwoods National Cemetery at Harshaw, 57 miles north. The register of deeds "records military discharge papers for veterans", free under section 45.05. The county parks code, read in full, carries no veteran discount. No veterans treatment court serves Marathon County - the court system's county list omits it - and the county's own board minutes for the year are not archived, so the year's sweep rests on the commission and budget records that were.
