Manatee Moves Veterans is a free door-to-door ride service that the county's Veterans Services and Transportation divisions started in January 2025; it passed 1,000 rides by September 2025.
Who. A veteran "with an honorable or under honorable conditions discharge" who can walk on his or her own or with a device such as a folding walker. The veteran does not need to use any other county veterans service.
Registering. Call Veterans Services at 941-745-3795 for a short intake and a check of the DD-214 or other discharge papers. If the papers are missing, the office can help request them, though that slows approval.
Riding. Once approved, book in the Manatee Moves app at any hour, or by phone at 941-747-1739 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, up to three days ahead or for the next available driver. Rides run from 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Saturday, only inside the county and only to and from medical and dental providers, pharmacies and Manatee County Veterans Services, which the county counts as a medical trip; answer "yes" when the app asks whether it is a medical trip. The limit is two one-way trips a day. A missing provider can be added by calling the booking line.
