Malden Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Malden’s guide to application dates lists the veterans’ exemptions, clauses 22 and 22D, with the filing deadlines but no amount, so this entry gives the statute’s: $400 for a veteran rated 10 percent or more, and full exemption under 22D.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Malden.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The City of Malden grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a city can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Assessor’s “Guide to Application Dates” lists the statutory exemptions the city administers, among them the veteran exemption (clause 22) and the surviving spouse of a service member who died or is missing in action from injury or disease during active duty (clause 22D), each due April 1 or three months after the actual bills were mailed, and gives no amounts. The figures here are the statute’s, and no clause 22I or 22J acceptance was found on the city’s site or in its records. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Malden Veterans Services. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
