Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The county's own page, under the Assessor of Property: "Tennessee state law provides for property tax relief for low-income elderly and disabled homeowners, as well as disabled veteran homeowners or their surviving spouses. This is a state program funded by appropriations authorized by the General Assembly. Tax collecting officials, including county trustees, receive applications from taxpayers who may qualify. The Tax Relief section processes these applications and determines eligibility for the program." "Tax relief is payment by the State of Tennessee to reimburse homeowners meeting certain eligibility requirements, for a part or all of paid property taxes. Tax Relief is not an exemption. You still receive your tax bill(s) and are responsible for paying your property taxes each year." The page dates the programme to 1973, from the 1972 constitutional amendment, and links the State's brochure and questions page; the amounts and eligibility rules are the State entries' text (Tennessee Code 67-5-701 to 67-5-705). The Assessor's office hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm and the Trustee's 9:00 am to 5:00 pm weekdays at the courthouse, 100 E. Main St., Jackson; the courthouse's general number is 731-988-3960. The Trustee's own page names no veteran practice of its own.
