The office. The Madison County Veterans Service Office is at 1305 S. 13th Street, Suite 200, Norfolk, NE 68701, phone (402) 370-3578, fax (402) 370-3579, open Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. - in Norfolk, not at the courthouse in Madison. The Veterans Service Officer is Gregg Hanson, with assistant Tina Uttecht, per the State's directory (updated October 26, 2026); the Board re-appointed him at its January 13, 2026 reorganization. The county's page says the office "is established under Nebraska Revised Statute 80-407" and "provides assistance and guidance to Veterans, Widows of Veterans and their families for Federal, State, and County veterans programs and benefits based on the required elements for eligibility", naming VA education, vocational rehabilitation, compensation, pension, health care and burial, and the State's waiver of tuition, the Nebraska Veterans Home in Norfolk and the Nebraska Veterans' Aid fund. The Board's year. On November 4, 2025 the Board approved, on its consent agenda, the Nebraska Department of Veterans' Affairs' memorandum of understanding putting the office on the department's licence for the VetraSpec claims database from January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2028. On June 30, 2026 it re-appointed Larry Dittberner to what the minutes call the Madison County Veterans Service Board for a five-year term, July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2031, and placed on file the minutes of the Veterans Service Committee's annual meeting - of June 6, 2024. The claims lists show the county carrying the office's building (lawn care, utilities, garbage) and $2,322.14 paid to CenTec Cast Metal Products for grave markers on November 18, 2025. At the August 25, 2026 budget discussion Mr. Hanson questioned a personnel calculation he read as cutting a requested 3 percent raise to about 2 percent. The money. The proposed 2025-2026 budget gave the office $136,244.40 against $114,919.98 spent in 2024-2025, and added a Veterans' Aid line for the first time (see the county aid entry). The Clerk files discharge records, which "are not public information"; a veteran is sent to this office for them (see the Nebraska entry on the Discharge Record).
