Madison County (Nebraska) Veterans Aid

Madison County budgeted county veterans aid under section 80-102 for the first time in 2025-2026 - $6,000, after a draft figure of $60,000 was corrected as a typing error - and paid the whole $6,000 to its Veterans Office in October 2025; the county’s own page names only the State’s aid fund.

Also called: county veterans aid, 80-102, emergency aid, LB1300, Veterans' Aid Costs, Norfolk, Madison, Battle Creek, Newman Grove, Meadow Grove, Tilden.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, child, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

What the budget shows. The proposed 2025-2026 budget carries a Veteran's Aid function (0100-802) with one line, "Veterans' Aid Costs", at $6,000.00, against nothing budgeted or spent in 2023-2024 and 2024-2025. At the special budget hearing of September 8, 2025 the Board "Corrected a typographical error in Veterans Aid, changing the amount from $60,000 to $6,000", and the September 9, 2025 minutes record the same correction. The October 7, 2025 claims then paid "Madison County Veterans Office Veterans' Aid Costs, Veteran Service" $6,000.00 - the year's whole line, moved to the office in one claim. No posted record shows how the office pays it out or what the committee's rules are. Who qualifies. Section 80-102 lets the county veterans service committee aid a veteran, a spouse, a surviving spouse or a minor child in need. Since LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) the veteran need only have served, been discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions) or died in service, and lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county; there is no wartime test. The county's Veteran Services page lists only the State's Nebraska Veterans' Aid fund, so a veteran should ask the office about the county fund by name. See the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion.
