Macon County Supervisor of Assessments: Veterans Exemption Filing Route
Macon County's Supervisor of Assessments is the Chief County Assessment Office for the veterans exemptions: the Standard Homestead Exemption for Veterans with Disabilities files on PTAX-342 with the office, the Specially Adapted Housing exemption and the Returning Veterans' Homestead Exemption (PTAX-341) file there too, and the office posts the forms.
Also called: PTAX-342, PTAX-341, DVSHE, SHEVD, returning veterans, specially adapted housing, Chief County Assessment Office, Supervisor of Assessments, 35 ILCS 200/15-169.
The county's own page. The Supervisor of Assessments' exemption pages carry the State's text with the county's filing office named: the Standard Homestead Exemption for Veterans with Disabilities (35 ILCS 200/15-169) - "A qualified veteran with a service-connected disability of at least 30% but less than 50% will receive a $2,500 reduction in EAV; if the veteran has a service-connected disability of 50% but less than 70%, the annual exemption is $5,000; and if the veteran has a service-connected disability of 70% or more, the residential property is exempt from taxation" - with the surviving-spouse transfers and the 2023 and 2024 changes ("Beginning in tax year 2023 (property taxes payable in 2024), the first $250,000 in equalized assessed value of the property is exempt from taxation, rather than $250,000 being a cap on eligibility... the honorable discharge requirement has been removed"; and "Beginning in tax year 2024 (property taxes payable in 2025), a Veteran that was a member of the United States Armed Forces during World War II, regardless of their disability status, their qualified residence is exempt from taxation, as long as all requirements are met"). The Specially Adapted Housing exemption (15-165) and the Returning Veterans' Homestead Exemption (15-167, "a $5,000 reduction in the EAV of a veteran's principal residence upon returning from active duty... for two consecutive tax years... Applicants must file a Form PTAX-341... with the Chief County Assessment Office") carry the same State text, and the page links "Link to exemption forms" for the PTAX set, with the county's own PTAX-342 DVSHE and PTAX-342-R renewal and PTAX-341 forms in its download library. The Homestead Exemption for Persons with Disabilities page records the bar: "The property cannot receive this exemption in the same year it is receiving the Veterans with Disabilities Exemption for Specially-Adapted Housing or the Standard Homestead Exemption for Veterans with Disabilities."
The county's 2026 assessment publication (September 2026) is the annual assessment roll and carries no veteran-exemption count of its own. The State entries carry the exemption amounts; the filing office here is the Supervisor of Assessments, Macon County Office Building, 141 S. Main Street, Decatur.
