Lyme Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions

Lyme’s assessor page lists veterans among the exemption programs the office administers without printing an amount, and OLR’s survey recorded no municipal option.

Also called: property tax, 12-81g, veterans exemption, assessor, Lyme.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor page gives the office’s duties - among them to “administer all tax-exemption and tax-abatement programs offered by the state and Town to eligible residents (which can include the elderly, veterans, active military personnel, disabled individuals and owners of certain kinds of farm buildings and open spaces)” - and its contact information; it prints no veteran. Its Tax-Related Forms paragraph tells residents that the Permits & Applications page carries “applications for elderly tax relief and veterans tax relief” under its tax-related heading, but the Permits & Applications page’s list carries the Motor Vehicle Property Tax Exemption forms for resident and non-resident active-duty military and an application for elderly tax relief, and no veterans’ application; a veteran looking for the veterans’ relief application the assessor’s page describes is sent to the assessor. OLR’s 2023 survey recorded Lyme as offering no municipal option, and no Lyme code was found on a readable host. The wartime exemption is $1,000 of assessed value under 12-81(19), with the 12-81g(a) additional exemption of twice that for income within the 12-81l limit; ask the assessor.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
