Lunenburg Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Lunenburg’s Assessors’ Department administers "all statutory tax exemptions as allowed by law" and prints no amounts, and its Veteran’s Services Department names Michelle Durkee the agent - the directory’s row for the town a phone with a digit too many - so this entry gives the statute’s.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Lunenburg.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Lunenburg grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Assessors’ Department page names Brian Laffond the chair (term expires June 2029), Sarah Cammer the vice chair (June 2027) and Bryant Moscon the member (June 2028), at the Ritter Building, 960 Massachusetts Avenue, P.O. Box 135 (978-582-4145, fax 978-582-4148), and says the department administers a motor vehicle excise, abatements "and all statutory tax exemptions as allowed by law". No page of the town’s posts an amount of its own for any veterans’ clause, so the figures here are the statute’s; no acceptance of clause 22I or 22J was found on the town’s site. The Veteran’s Services Department page names Michelle Durkee the Veteran’s Service Agent at the Ritter Memorial Building, 960 Massachusetts Avenue - Phone 978-582-4146 Ext. 6, additional phone 978-400-1938, fax 978-582-4909, office hours Thursdays 9 a.m. to noon - and links the state’s veterans’ laws page. The EOVS directory’s September 7, 2026 row lists Durkee at the same building with "(978) 582-41746 x4", a phone with a digit too many, and the same additional number; her rows for Lancaster, Templeton, Warren and West Brookfield carry the same officer at those offices. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Lunenburg Veteran’s Services: Michelle Durkee, Veteran’s Service Agent. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
