Ludlow Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions (Clauses 22 to 22F)

Ludlow’s assessors’ page prints no clause amounts and its site answers a bare 403, so this entry gives the statute’s, read through the Internet Archive; the town’s veterans’ department serves its own site from ludlowveterans.us, which answers 403 to curl too.

Also called: property tax, clause 22, 22E, veterans exemption, assessors, Ludlow.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Ludlow grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. www.ludlow.ma.us answers a bare 403 Forbidden to curl and to the automated browser alike (issue #182), so the Assessors page was read through the Internet Archive’s capture of June 9, 2026. The page names acting on “exemption and abatement applications” among the board’s work, tells veterans, seniors and the blind that exemption applications are mailed out after July 1 for the new fiscal year, and prints no clause amount, so the figures here are the statute’s. The page names Jose Alves the Assistant Assessor, Maria Fernandes the Associate Assessor and Paula Mahoney the Administrative Assistant at Town Hall, 488 Chapin Street, 3rd Floor (413-583-5600). The town’s own menu sends veterans to ludlowveterans.us, the Department of Veterans’ Services’ site, which answers 403 to curl as well and was read through the Archive’s captures of May 2025 to June 2026. The department’s Contact Us page names Eric Segundo the director at the Ludlow Veterans Center, 487 Holyoke Street (413-707-5050), where the EOVS directory lists the same officer, and the director’s bio says he was hired as Director of Veterans Services in 2013 and was the Department of Veterans Services’ “Outstanding VSO of the Year” in 2015. The site’s Veterans Tax Work Off Program page records a $1,500 credit for 111 hours of work, the program year running February 1 to November 30, and cites G.L. c. 59, s. 5N, the work-off statute, allowing an approved representative for a participant physically unable to serve. The site’s Veterans Organizations page lists the Sgt. Joshua D. Desforges VFW Post 3236 and its auxiliary and American Legion Post 52, each meeting at the Ludlow Veterans Center, 487 Holyoke Street. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Ludlow Department of Veterans’ Services: Eric Segundo, Director of Veterans Services. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
