Lucas County Auditor: Disabled Veteran Homestead Exemption

Lucas County's Auditor takes the State's disabled veteran homestead application, covering both a 100% rating and unemployability paid at 100%, but asks for a DD-214 showing an honorable discharge where the statute accepts any discharge under honorable conditions.

Also called: homestead, property tax, DTE 105I, county auditor, unemployability, 323.152.

For: Veteran or service member, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemption is the State's, under Revised Code 323.152(A)(2); see the Ohio entry. The Lucas County Auditor, 1 Government Center, Suite 600, Toledo (419-213-4406), takes DTE 105I online or on paper. What it asks. Ownership and occupancy of the home on January 1 of the year applied for, so a home bought this year is applied for next year; a VA award letter showing a 100% rating, or compensation at 100% for individual unemployability, with the effective date; and the DD-214. The Auditor rightly includes the unemployability route and sets no income test. Where the page narrows the statute. It asks for a DD-214 "to show that you were honorably discharged". Section 323.151(F) requires a discharge or release "under honorable conditions", which includes a general discharge, so a veteran with a general discharge qualifies and should cite the section.
