Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemptions are the State's: a veteran with a service-connected total disability, and the unremarried surviving spouse, pay no ad valorem tax on the homestead (Sections 27-33-67 and 27-33-75), and an honorably discharged veteran of 90 or older is exempt too, which House Bill 420 of 2026 lowers to 85 for claims made in 2027; see the Mississippi entries. What the assessor's page says. The homestead page on the Tax Assessor's site: "If you are a 100% service connected Disabled Veteran you would receive full credit for the total value of qualified property. You may apply for Homestead Exemptions from January 2 through April 1 of each year." Bring the filed warranty deed, the settlement statement, tag numbers and Social Security numbers and dates of birth for the owners; "If filing as disabled, proof from the Veteran's Administration / Social Security must be presented." The deed must be filed with the Chancery Clerk by January 7 to count for that year, and there is no need to reapply unless something changes. The page sits on the host's shared path rather than under the county's own address, and it does not mention the 90-and-over veteran exemption; ask for it. Where.
