Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The officer. Loup County's Veterans Services Officer page lists Emory Haynes, Custer County's Veterans Service Officer, 431 S 10th Ave, Broken Bow, NE 68822, (308) 872-2071, whose office serves Loup County (see the Custer County office entry, which also serves Loup County). Where the money is. Loup County's filed 2025-2026 budget lists no veterans aid fund among its funds, and its budget summary carries none; its only veterans line is the Veterans' Service Officer budget (0100-803), $3,000.00 a year as professional fees, which the Board pays to Mr. Haynes each September ($3,000.00 on September 10, 2025 and September 9, 2026). Who qualifies. Section 80-102 lets a county veterans service committee aid a veteran, a spouse, a surviving spouse or a minor child in need; since LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) the veteran need only have served, been discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions) or died in service, and lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county. Loup County keeps a Veterans Service Committee (Eugene Thoene reappointed to 2030, Phillip Hart to 2031) but no county money for aid; ask Mr. Haynes, (308) 872-2071, about the State's Nebraska Veterans' Aid fund and any county help, or the County Clerk in Taylor, (308) 942-3135. See the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion.
