Loudoun County announced a Veterans Treatment Docket after the Supreme Court of Virginia approved it. The November 30, 2022 county release says the docket serves justice-involved veterans who have a mental illness or a co-occurring disorder, as an alternative to ordinary case processing. It is not a tax benefit and it is not open to a veteran who is not before the Loudoun court. The release lists these eligibility points: age 18 or older and a Loudoun resident; a misdemeanor charge, or a felony reduced to a misdemeanor; a serious mental illness or a co-occurring diagnosis; a medium or high risk of recidivism; and prior service in the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, Space Force, or National Guard. Discharge character is not a bar in that list. The release says more criteria may apply. Entry is through the court. Peer mentors who are veterans are part of the model. A disabled veteran with no Loudoun case does not use this docket.
