Loudoun County Vehicle Tax Rate for Permanent and Total Disability
A lower 2026 vehicle tax rate of $1.50 per $100 on one car or pickup for a permanently and totally disabled owner who is under the income and net-worth caps.
Also called: car tax, vehicle tax, alternative rate, personal property.
For: Veteran or service member.
Where it applies
Written for the jurisdictions listed here.
- Loudoun County, VACounty
Loudoun taxes one automobile or pickup at a lower rate when the owner is 65 or older, or permanently and totally disabled, and meets the income and net-worth tests. The 2026 property tax rate page sets that rate at $1.50 per $100 of assessed value. The Board sets it each year. This is not the $0.00 class for the narrower disabled-veteran statute, and it is not the statewide one-vehicle exemption.
The owner has to be permanently and totally disabled, or 65, as of December 31 of the prior year. VA, Social Security, the Railroad Retirement Board, or two physicians on the county affidavit can document the disability. A married couple qualifies if either spouse meets the age or disability test. The vehicle has to be titled to the applicant on January 1, used mainly by or for the applicant, and garaged in Loudoun.
Gross combined income of the owners and a spouse who lives in the home cannot exceed $52,000. Up to $7,500 of the disabled owner's disability income can be deducted. Net worth cannot exceed $195,000, excluding the dwelling and up to one acre. First-time vehicle applicants for 2026 had to file by September 1. A veteran who qualifies for the statewide vehicle exemption uses that exemption instead.
