Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Lorain County Veterans Service Commission pays Lorain County veteran-owned law firms to do legal work for eligible veterans and families. What is covered. A basic estate plan (simple will, financial and health care powers of attorney, living will and HIPAA release) for the veteran and spouse or surviving spouse; an estate plan with a revocable trust, including recording; a power of attorney for a specific purpose; guardianship of the person in Lorain County Probate Court; a residential lease for a single unit; deeds, transfer-on-death affidavits and affidavits of survivorship, recorded; record sealing and expungement; and civil litigation with the commission's approval and a cost cap, the client paying anything over it. Defending an eviction or a debt collection suit does not need that approval. Who qualifies. A veteran, surviving spouse or dependent child where the veteran's discharge was honorable or general under honorable conditions, a Lorain County resident for at least 90 days, with household adjusted gross income below $200,000. Download the application, gather the documents it lists, and upload them; the commission answers in three to five business days and connects the client with a lawyer.
