Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Town of Longmeadow grants the veterans’ exemptions of G.L. c. 59, s. 5, clauses 22 to 22F, through its board of assessors. The statute sets them as dollars off the tax bill, $400 under clause 22, $750, $1,250 and $1,500 under 22A to 22C and $1,000 under 22E, and exempts the whole domicile under 22D and 22F; a town can add to them only by accepting a local option, clause 22I, clause 22J or section 5C½. Every figure on this entry carries its source and the day it was read. The Board of Assessors’ page names Augusto Bairos, Michael McLane and Anthony Martin the members at the Assessor’s Office, 231 Maple Road in the Greenwood Center (413-565-4115), with Maria T. Cataldo, M.A.A. the Principal Assessor and Scott Santinello the Assessor and Procurement Assistant, and counts three personal real estate tax exemptions for fiscal 2026, for blind residents, low income elderly and veterans with disabilities, without amounts. The office’s Personal Exemptions Information sheet, the latest it posts (its 41C figures keyed to fiscal 2018), prints the veterans’ clauses at the statute: $400 under clause 22 for a veteran the Department of Veterans Affairs certifies 10 per cent or more service-connected disabled, and $1,000 under 22E for a veteran certified 100 per cent disabled; it prints no 22A to 22C lines and names no local option, so the figures here are the statute’s. The Senior and Veteran Volunteer Abatement Program credits an abatement of up to $1,500 for veterans ($2,000 for seniors) in 2026, and its 2026 application records the program under G.L. c. 59, §§ 5K and 5N, accepted by the town’s annual town meetings of May 14, 2002 and May 7, 2013: veteran volunteers complete 100 hours by December 1, 2026, and must have owned and occupied the home and lived in Longmeadow at least two years before participating. The Veterans’ Services page names Lena Vellturo the Director of Veterans’ Services at 211 Maple Road (413-565-4150, extension 5), where the EOVS directory lists the same officer at the Greenwood Center, 211 Maple Road ((413) 565-4100 x5), and describes the department’s duty to help veterans procure employment, education, hospitalization, medical care and pension benefits, with the Veterans’ Bill of Rights under 108 CMR; the Veterans’ State Benefits page describes chapter 115 as the Commonwealth’s uniform program of financial and medical assistance for indigent veterans and their dependents. The Veterans’ Organizations page links AMVETS, the Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion, the VFW and the Vietnam Veterans of America, no local post named. Chapter 115 benefits, the Commonwealth’s needs-based help with rent, food, fuel and medical costs, are applied for through Longmeadow Veterans’ Services: Lena Vellturo, Director of Veterans’ Services. Their amounts are set by the Commonwealth and are the same in every city and town; the statewide chapter 115 entry describes them.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
