Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The county's veteran rides are a partnership between Veteran Services and LETS, the Livingston Essential Transportation Service. To schedule: call LETS at 517-546-6600, press 3, and tell the dispatcher you are a veteran - name, phone, pickup address, and the time, date, location and length of the appointment. Medical rides go anywhere within a 50-mile radius of the Veteran Services office and are booked from 48 hours to 30 days ahead; no same-day reservations. The expanded programme, "Veterans Ride Free", widened the service beyond medicine: "get our veterans out to grocery shop, pick up prescriptions, pay bills, get to work, take part in recreational or senior programs, and much more", within the county, up to a week ahead. A rider's first booking needs a DD Form 214 showing an honorable discharge provided to Veteran Services. The office's transportation policy sets the rest: a 30-minute pickup window and a five-minute wait before a no-show; no smoking, eating, drinking or firearms; no collecting VA travel pay for a ride the programme provides; riders under general anesthesia ride only with a pre-arranged caregiver; and if neither LCVS nor LETS can cover a trip, the VA's own dispatch, 734-222-7145, arranges rides from the Howell CBOC to VA Ann Arbor. "Veteran Services reserves the right to book with LETS for Veteran if driver is over-booked. LETS transportation costs will be covered by LCVS." The workload the county's budget book reports: 2,606 medical appointment transportations in 2024, on a fleet line of $28,157. Questions and cancellations: (517) 546-6338.
