How the county funds it. The Fiscal Year 2026-2027 budget (October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2027; the Commissioners' Court approved it on September 21, 2026, all five members voting for it) has no veterans department or line among its General Fund departments - county judge, county clerk, general administration, district court, justice of the peace, miscellaneous court, treasurer, tax assessor-collector, courthouse and other buildings, fire departments, sheriff, health and welfare, libraries, parks, agricultural extension, cemeteries - or in the road and bridge fund. A county of under 200,000 people is not required to keep an officer (Government Code 434.032; see the Texas entry). TexVet.
