Flag holders. "Flag holders are available to the family of any deceased Veteran, buried in Lincoln County, who served during 'war time' and received an Honorable Discharge. One marker is provided to the family at no cost," with markers for all war eras; ask the office. Capacity. On April 20, 2026 the Board discussed an interlocal agreement Logan County sent asking compensation because its veterans service officer was serving Lincoln County residents who did not want to wait for a Lincoln County appointment. Mr. Gann reported that veterans going to other counties and states for help is very common and that, given his office's workload, it was turning away applicants who are not Lincoln County residents, since he is the only one who can do claim development; Commissioner Wuehler noted the part-time help the office had asked for the year before was not in the budget. The adopted 2026-2027 budget carries $191,400 for the Veterans Service Officer department, against $137,196 spent in 2025-2026, and in October 2026 the county posted an opening for a Deputy Veterans Service Officer - prior active duty with an honorable discharge, a year's Nebraska residence, and VA accreditation within about a year - who will visit veterans and widows in care facilities, hospitals and homes. The Board set Mr. Gann's salary at $73,519.06 from January 16, 2026. The Board's year. It signed the Nebraska Department of Veterans' Affairs' memorandum of understanding (November 10, 2025), adopted Resolution No. 2026-05 opposing LB 1072's transfer from the Veterans Aid Fund (January 26, 2026, after Mr. Gann briefed it on January 20 that the bill would move $2,500,000 to the department's cash fund before June 2026 and again before June 2027), appointed David Beran, Pam Elliot and Benton Miller to the Veterans Services Committee (August 3, 2026), heard Mr. Gann on the Lieutenant Governor's Korean War Veterans Program event of July 10, 2026 at Mid-Plains Community College, and supported Operation Green Light for Veterans in 2025 (Resolution 2025-28) and for November 2026.
