Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The county's page. "The CVA fund is a temporary emergency fund to assist veterans, their spouses, and dependents when there is an unforeseen emergency and there are no other resources available." Applicants may request help with shelter, food and utilities, must apply through the County Service Officer in the county where they live, meet the requirements of the County Veterans' Services Committee and the residency requirements, and must show a financial need. The page defines a veteran as anyone who "served on active duty, received an Honorable Discharge, and served during a recognized period of conflict" - narrower than section 80-102 since LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) struck the wartime test; the statute accepts any service with an honorable or general (under honorable conditions) characterization, with one year in Nebraska and six months in the county, and covers spouses, surviving spouses and minor children under eighteen (see the Nebraska entry). What the fund holds. The adopted 2026-2027 budget's Veterans Aid Fund (fund 1900) shows a net balance of $45,685 at July 1 in each of 2023-2024, 2024-2025 and 2025-2026, with no property tax, State revenue, local revenue or transfers in any of them, and the same $45,685 available for 2026-2027 with no tax requested. The fund has money and has not been drawn on: a Lincoln County veteran in an emergency who meets the statute should ask the office, (308) 534-4350 Ext. 4267, by name.
