What was reported. The Criminal Justice Committee's agenda of November 6, 2025 carried Sheriff Troy Bevier's request recording that the Sheriff's Office "applied for and was awarded a Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) through the State of Michigan", titled "Innovative Reentry Initiatives", to "create a multidisciplinary reentry team to work with inmates from entry to release" and build a continuum of care into the community; the packet lists the focus areas as "substance use programs, mental health services, education, employment, and veteran services". Three months later the Sheriff's report in the February 5, 2026 committee packet numbers its jail achievements, at item 26: "Began veteran's services for inmates". The county's draft 2027 budget carries fund 210 BJA among its lines. What is not known. No county page, policy or agenda document describes which veteran services the jail offers, who runs them or how an inmate or a family asks for them. The county's veterans department (517-264-5335) and the jail through the Criminal Justice Committee, whose commissioners are Terry Collins, Dustin Krasny and David Aungst, are the routes; the entry rests on the Sheriff's reports, not on any guess about the programme.
