Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemptions are the State's (35 ILCS 200/15-169 and 15-167); the Illinois entries explain them. LaSalle County's exemptions page gives the 2023 terms correctly: "All EAV up to $250,000 from the property (before taxes are calculated) for a veteran with at least a 70% service-connected disability", $5,000 at 50% to 69% and $2,500 at 30% to 49%, and, from 2024, an exemption for a World War II veteran regardless of disability. How. "You can download and complete the necessary property tax exemption form or come in to the LaSalle County Assessment Office to apply. After the initial application is approved, you will be mailed a renewal form each subsequent year." The returning veterans' exemption reduces EAV by $5,000 "for two years" for a veteran returning from an armed conflict during the assessment year; call (815) 434-8233 for a form. All first-time applications must be notarised and come with photo ID, and only originals are accepted. A veteran with this exemption cannot also claim the exemption for persons with disabilities.
