Lapeer County Veteran Services and the Veteran Services Committee oversees the Lapeer County Relief Fund. The Committee reviews and decides if applicants meet the requirements for applying."
Who. "To be eligible for this grant, the applicant must be a legal resident of Lapeer County and the State of Michigan for at least 90 days at the time of application. The Veteran must have been discharged under Honorable conditions with at least 6 months of active service or have been separated as the result of a physical or mental disability incurred in the line of duty (or aggravated by active duty). Applications have to be filed thru the local Veteran Services Office." The county's test differs from the statute's in both directions: the Act is for indigent veterans who served during a period of war, while the county asks for six months' service and does not mention wartime. Ask the office which applies to you.
The committee. Appointed by the Board of Commissioners, it "sets policy and procedure for the use and expenditure of the Veteran's Relief Fund, PA 214": Scott Martin (chairman), Gary Howell, Robert Evoy, Robert Conrad, Leal Saunders and David Hill, in 2026. The Board's claims lists show payments from the fund (fund 293) every cycle. Call 810-667-0256 for help with the forms.
