Lancaster County Veterans Affairs, in the Government Center at 150 N. Queen Street, is the county director of veterans affairs' office: its service officers file VA claims and take the State applications, and it pays the county burial and headstone allowance, places grave flags and drives veterans to the Lebanon VA Medical Center. Casework is by phone or email; the office takes document drop-offs.
Also called: county director of veterans affairs, CVSO, veterans service officer, Government Center, North Queen Street, claims help, aid and attendance, Lancaster.
For: Veteran or service member, spouse, child, survivor.
Lancaster County Veterans Affairs is the office every Pennsylvania county must have: a director of veterans affairs appointed by the commissioners (16 Pa.C.S. 15524) and holding VA accreditation (51 Pa.C.S. 1731). See the Pennsylvania entry on county directors. The director is Jodi Barone.
How it works. The office is open for casework and for dropping off evidence, but casework is handled by phone and email, so call or write first to set up a case review, claim development or appeal. County of Lancaster Veterans Affairs, 150 N. Queen Street, Suite 103, Lancaster PA 17603 (enter on Chestnut Street); 717-299-7920; weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
What it does. VA claims for service-connected disability and death, pension and aid and attendance, Dependency and Indemnity Compensation, survivors' pension and help for homeless veterans; applications to the State veterans homes and for the State's emergency assistance; and the county's own benefits, the $100 burial and headstone allowance, grave markers and flags, and transport to the Lebanon VA Medical Center (see those entries). The real estate tax exemption and Veterans' Temporary Assistance also go through this office; see the Pennsylvania entries.
The 2026 county budget gives the office $503,988, of which $43,423 is for burials, $8,400 for headstones, $64,000 for flags and markers and $10,000 for the care of veterans' graves.
