Lake County: Disabled Veteran Homestead Exemption

The Lake County Auditor takes the State's disabled veteran homestead application, but the Veterans Service Commission's pages ask for a permanent and total rating, which the statute does not, and give $50,000 and $58,000 for 2026 where the figure is $59,400. The Auditor's own page says nothing of disabled veterans.

Also called: homestead, property tax, DTE 105I, county auditor, P&T, permanent and total, unemployability, 323.152.

For: Veteran or service member, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemption is the State's, under Revised Code 323.152(A)(2); see the Ohio entry. File DTE 105I, with the DD-214 and the VA award letter, with the Lake County Auditor, 105 Main Street, Painesville (440-350-2532), by December 31, or ask the Veterans Service Commission (440-350-2904) to help. There is no income test. Where the commission's pages narrow the statute. Both of its homestead pages describe the veteran as "100% permanently & totally disabled" or "TDIU P&T", and ask for the award letter showing "100% P&T or TDIU P&T". Section 323.151(F) asks only for "a total disability rating" or a total rating for compensation based on individual unemployability. A veteran rated 100%, or paid at 100% for unemployability, whose rating is not yet permanent qualifies and should file anyway, citing the section. The pages also ask for an "HONORABLE DISCHARGE", where the statute accepts a discharge under honorable conditions, which includes a general discharge. The figures. One commission page gives the reduction as the tax on "$50,000" of value, the figure before House Bill 33 indexed it to inflation; the other says $58,000 "for the 2026 tax cycle". For tax year 2026 real property the disabled veteran reduction is $59,400. The Auditor's homestead page covers only seniors and the disabled, still gives a "flat $26,200" for the ordinary credit (now $29,700), and does not mention disabled veterans at all.
