Kitsap County Assessor: Senior, Disabled and Disabled Veteran Exemption

The Kitsap County Assessor's eligibility page says a veteran needs "a 80 percent service connected disability", leaving out the total-rating route for unemployability that the statute has carried for years, and has not caught up with the 40% floor for taxes collected from 2027. Kitsap's 2027 to 2029 income thresholds are $70,000, $81,000 and $93,000.

Also called: property tax, assessor, 84.36.381, senior exemption, disabled veteran exemption, 40 percent, individual unemployability, combined disposable income, deferral.

Subsection (3)(a)(ii)(B) qualifies a veteran receiving VA compensation at "a total disability rating for a service-connected disability without regard to evaluation percent". A veteran paid at the total rate for individual unemployability qualifies at any schedular rating, in 2026 as in 2027; the page gives no such route. The 2027 floor. Chapter 200, Laws of 2025 cut the combined rating needed to 40% for taxes collected in 2027 and after, which turn on the veteran's rating and income in 2026. A veteran rated 40% to 70% who owns and lives in the home should apply for 2027 when the Assessor takes those claims. Income. For 2027 to 2029 the Department of Revenue sets Kitsap's thresholds at $70,000, $81,000 and $93,000 (deferral $103,990), well above the $65,000 the page gives for 2026, and chapter 163, Laws of 2026 takes Combat-Related Special Compensation out of the income counted. VA disability compensation and dependency and indemnity compensation were never counted.
